Veneers

Like a false fingernail, veneers are a thin shell of porcelain (or natural-colour ā€˜compositeā€™ material) that is made to fit over the front, visible surface of your tooth. Usually, veneers take at least two visits to the dentist. The first is to prepare the tooth and match the shade of the colour, and the second is to fit it.

A veneer can be used to improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth, especially chipped teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps or can be fitted to bring a tooth into line with others.

Veneers can make teeth look natural and healthy. During the first appointment, the process includes removing the shiny, outer enamel surface of the tooth to make sure that the veneer can be bonded permanently in place. As there may be some discomfort, local anaesthetic may used prior to treatment. An impression (ā€˜mouldā€™) of your teeth is then taken and given to our dental technician to make the personalised veneer. A note of the colour of your teeth will be made so the veneer matches that of your smile so it will look entirely natural. During the second appointment, our dentist will show you the veneer on your tooth to ensure your satisfaction. The veneer is the bonded in place with a special adhesive, holding it firmly on the tooth. Once placed, minor adjustments can be made to the veneer, although it is best to wait a little while to get used to it.

Veneers should last for many years, usually between five to ten years, although the can chip and break like your own natural teeth. Our dental team will tell you how long each veneer is capable of lasting. Good oral health in the key to making your veneers last longer.
